What Can Sports Teach Us About the Future of Business?

Building a Winning Team Starts With Leadership

What do successful sports organizations and successful businesses have in common? More than you might think.

Ahead of the November 12 Forum@535, Seth Allen of Arrowhead Consulting Group and Freddie Vargas Jr. of Tater Baseball joined FOX61’s Jim Altman at Rebellion Group in Cheshire to discuss how lessons from athletics can help business leaders build stronger teams, develop talent, and prepare for what’s next.

For Allen, the similarities begin with the people leaders choose to bring onto their teams and the culture they create around them.

“This is a great event to bring athletic leaders and then also business leaders and have them speak about their best practices and what’s making them successful,” Allen said.

That includes how organizations coach and mentor employees, create opportunities for growth, and retain the people who contribute most to their success. As Allen explained, talent retention is as important in business as it is in athletics, where keeping top performers can make the difference between sustained success and starting over.

Vargas, whose Tater Baseball business continues to expand, sees similar value in bringing leaders together to exchange ideas.

“We all deal with similar problems and how we can tackle them and how we can be forward-thinking on how things change in the future,” Vargas said.

That’s the thinking behind Forum@535: bringing entrepreneurs, executives, and business owners together for candid conversations that challenge assumptions, share experience, and help leaders learn from one another.
